Who runs this site
In the site owner’s own words:
Hello my name is Barbara Martinez. I created this website to help woman and men start a hair business and keep it going. Too many times I see people that are so excited that they started their hair business only to stop after a couple months to a year. I believe the main reason for this is the lack of information. I hope this website helps you and I’ll keep striving to bring quality content.
The site grew alongside the Hair Money Making Guides Facebook group, which now has more than 10,000 members. Most of what is worth reading here started as something a member posted there after spending their own money with a supplier.
What is actually on this site
Three layers, and they are not equally useful — it is better to say so than to let you find out by reading:
- The vendor layer. The free list of 50+ wholesale hair vendors, the vendor directory (which also carries a list of 50 HD wig-cap vendors), and the vendor reviews covering eight suppliers with members’ own photos and comments. This is the part of the site people actually come for.
- Operator guides. Practical posts for someone running the business rather than wearing the hair — whether you need a business license, shipping, mall kiosks, dropshipping, branding, and how to test a sample before you order in bulk.
- A consumer-facing archive. A large batch of shorter how-to posts on wearing and caring for extensions, published in December 2022. They are thinner, they overlap each other, and we are rewriting them a few at a time rather than deleting pages people still land on.
In total: 121 blog posts published between August 2018 and December 2022, plus about two dozen vendor and reference pages. The whole archive is browsable in the blog index.
How this site makes money, and what that does not buy
Sell Hair Make Money is supported by Google display advertising. That is the entire business model, and it has one useful property: an advertiser buys space in an ad slot, not a sentence in an article.
So, concretely:
- Vendors cannot pay to be added to the vendor list. It is free to read and free to be on.
- Vendors cannot pay for a review, a better review, or the removal of a bad one. Pages like JP Hair and XBL Hair still carry blunt negative member comments for exactly this reason.
- There are no affiliate links in the vendor list or the reviews. We do not earn a commission when you order from a supplier.
- If any of that ever changes on a given page, it will be labelled on that page. The FTC’s Endorsement Guides set the standard we are trying to meet here, and they are worth reading if you run a hair brand and work with influencers yourself.

What “reviewed” means here — and what it does not
This is the most important thing to understand before you use anything on this site.
We have not verified any vendor. We have not ordered from them, weighed a bundle, washed it, or inspected a factory. The vendor list is a collection of names passed around the community. The reviews are unedited first-hand comments from group members. Neither is an endorsement, and there are no star ratings — this site used to display bare “(N/5)” scores with no methodology behind them, and they were removed rather than back-filled with numbers we could not justify.
What follows from that is simple: the sample order is your verification. Order one or two bundles first, pay by a reversible method, and put the hair through the wet, heat and wear tests before you spend real money or put a supplier’s product in front of a paying customer.
When we get something wrong
We correct it in public, on the page, with a dated note saying what was wrong — rather than quietly deleting the page and letting the bad version live on in screenshots. There is a worked example of that in the archive, where two claims in an older post turned out to be false and the correction is printed at the foot of the page. If you find an error, tell us and we will do the same thing again.

Is the vendor list really free?
Yes. The 50+ vendor list is published in full on the page — no signup, no email capture, no download gate.
Do you sell hair?
No. This site sells nothing. It publishes information for people who do sell hair.
Have you vetted the vendors you list?
No, and we will not claim otherwise. Sample-test anyone before sending money, and pay by a method you can dispute.
Is the site still being updated?
Yes, but selectively. Effort goes into the vendor layer and into rewriting the weakest posts in the 2022 archive. Vendor review pages carry their own dates — most were last updated in 2020, which matters when you read them.
